Local Music Disruption – Before and After COVID-19

Local music already was fragile pre-COVID in many cities from lack of support, community, and action. Our two speakers were set to share 71 local music studies and a lack of coordination at the canceled SXSW’20. They instead brought together 90+ key local leaders globally April’20 at the 25-hour Amplify Music virtual conference, and will have convened these local leaders again in Feb’21 at Amplify Music 2021. What actions have come out of the global disruption, good and bad? What will be possible outcomes that we can affect going forward? Are there new support models? New event economies? New networks? Successful initiative? We’ll discuss significant actions prior to, during, and after COVID-19, highlighting what has worked and what can be shared between communities.

Takeaways:

  • How local music ecosystems can be changed as a result of actions during the pandemic
  • Emerging support models for music communities
  • The efforts and collaborations between local, national, and global music cities networks
